ubai is truly a fascinating place to visit, a wonder created in the middle of the desert. Explore the multifaceted glamour of this metropolitan city through its bold futuristic architecture and luxury shopping blended with beautiful traditions.
Located in the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai is the largest and most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is the business hub of the Middle East. Most of us might think that oil is the dominant factor for its growth and development. Dubai was already a major mercantile hub before large oil fields were discovered. Today, less than 5% of the emirate’s revenue comes from oil. Its economy relies on real estate, trade, construction and tourism.
You might forget that you're still in the middle of the desert when you visit Dubai with all the glitz and glam all around you. Dubai has a hot desert climate and the weather can get pretty hot, with a hot humid weather averaging 41 degrees in the summers. The winters are much cooler, averaging at 24 degrees. But with so much indoor malls and parks to visit, you can pretty much stay out of the hot sun easily during your visit.
It takes great imagination and ambition to dream up and realize some of the projects that you see today. From the palm-shaped artificial archipelago to the tallest building and the second largest mall in the world. There's plenty to see and explore here in Dubai.
Burj Al Arab

The helipad on top has also hosted some incredible sports stars. Tiger Woods teed off from it in 2004. Andre Agassi and Roger Federer played tennis here in 2005.
Burj Khalifa
You might remember Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) scaling the exterior of this building not too long ago. Towering at 828m and with over 160 storeys, Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, three times the height of the Eiffel Tower. It's so tall that the tip of it can be seen from up to 95km away! Construction began in 2004 and took only five years to completion.
Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa is a testament to the bold vision and engineering craftsmanship here. Its design is inspired by Islamic architectural elements. The elegant Y-shaped floor geometry of this skyscraper optimizes the space while reducing the wind forces on the tower.
There's over 900 residential homes within, five swimming pools, a breathtaking observation deck (that you should not miss) and fine-dining at the world's highest restaurant - At.mosphere.
Dubai Mall
Dubai Mall is the second largest mall in the world. Spanning across four floors and a floor area of over 5.4 million square foot, Dubai Mall takes your shopping experience and entertainment for the whole family to a whole new level. It attracts millions of visitors from all over the world annually, just over 136 million people in 2018 alone!
There are over 1,300 retail shops and 200 eateries here. It also features the world-class Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo with thousands of marine life you can view from a 270-degree walkthrough tunnel. Ice skating has probably never crossed your mind when you’re in the middle of the desert but there’s an Olympic-sized Dubai Ice Rink here too. Another section you might not want to miss is The Souk, featuring some of the finest jewellery and accessories amongst traditional handicrafts.
There’s plenty to see, eat and do here for everyone in Dubai Mall, and it’s probably unlike any shopping experiences you’ve had before.
Palm Jumeirah
Another impressive engineering feat that you can find in Dubai is the Palm Jumeirah, a man-made island off the Arabian Gulf that’s shaped into a palm tree. After six years and million tons of sands and rocks, Palm Jumeirah is now home to thousands of private residences and nearly 30 hotels, perhaps the most impressive of them is the Atlantis.
Looking to get out of the heat? There’s plenty of ways to do that here. Chill out at one of the beach clubs here, and get in the waters for fast-paced speedboat ride or a slower-paced guided kayak tour. There’s also The Lost Chambers Aquarium, where you can snorkel and swim alongside some of the marine animals.
Dubai is a glamorous playground with lots to do and see. Just the architectural feats alone is something to be amazed at.
